The Harrop-Procter Community Co-operative was incorporated in 1999. Its purpose is run the business of the community forest and hold the Community Forest Agreement.
Any resident of Harrop-Procter may become a member of the co-op. Directors are elected directly from the HPCC membership at the AGM. At least half of the HPCC directors must also be HPWPS directors. Currently the co-op has over 130 members.
HPCC is a “not-for-profit” co-op because shareholders receive no dividends. Decisions are made by the membership and are to be for the benefit of the community as a whole.
The co-operative maintains several committees comprised of volunteer directors and interested community members. It retains a forest manager, office coordinator and bookkeeper. Day to day operations are run by a management committee comprised of directors and staff.
Harrop-Procter Forest Products is a subsidiary company of the Harrop-Procter Community Co-operative.
HPCC MISSION STATEMENT:
- Develop public forests in the Harrop-Procter area according to site sensitive, ecologically based forestry practices which are modeled on Silva Forest Foundation planning and approved by the Harrop-Procter Watershed Protection Society.
- Stimulate locally based employment from these forest lands in a manner that is ecologically sustainable, and socially and economically equitable.
