At BCCA we want to provide forums for our co-operative community to come together during these difficult times. So we are be offering a digital meet up series focused on issues specific to co-operative businesses. The meet ups will feature local co-operators and subject matter experts and provide plenty of opportunity for knowledge sharing among those in the call.

 

Co-ops, Mutuals, and Canada’s COVID-19 Economic Response Plan

Wondering what federal programs and supports (business and individual) your co-operative and members may be eligible for? Have questions regarding program criteria, expansions, exemptions, and updates?

Daniel Brunette, Director of Advocacy and Partnerships at Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada (CMC) will be sharing his knowledge and is available to answer any questions you may have. Like previous Co-op Meetups, there is also an open discussion segment of the meetup for participants to bring forward any discussion topics or ideas they would like to share with the rest of the co-operative community.

Engaging Your Members Through Co-operative Education

We had the opportunity to engage in an international conversation with the Alberta Community & Co-operative Association (ACCA) and the Irish Co-operative Organisation Society (ICOS) to share best practices and tactical approaches to co-operative education, member engagement and development, how to tailor co-op education to your individual co-op’s needs and membership, and more.

Ask a Lawyer: What’s Force Majeure and How Should I Run a Virtual AGM and Election?

Our first featured speaker is Mary Childs, a lawyer with Miller Thomson LLP and a BCCA board director. She will discuss two topics of concern to co-operatives during the COVID-19 pandemic:

  1. Force Majeure – what does it mean and how does it apply
  2. AGMs & Elections – how to ensure your virtual process is smooth and solid
