In Our Hands (IOH) is a co-operative entrepreneurship (“co-opreneurship”) program that aims to facilitate the development of co-operative enterprises that meet the employment needs and entrepreneurial aspirations of newcomers to Canada through increasing accessibility to information, resources, and support for navigating the process of starting and scaling co-operative businesses.

CALL FOR COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS

We are looking for Community Champions with multi-language skills who can support with translation and outreach to newcomer communities who would benefit from the program. Community Champions should speak, read, and write in English and another language fluently and have a strong ability to work remotely using digital tools like email and Google Docs. They can expect to work 1-2 hours per week on a flexible basis between May 1st 2022 and December 2022 as a start. Community Champions will be receive an honorarium dependent on the extent of their services needed. MORE ABOUT THE PROGRAM

IOH is a partnership project between BC Co-operative Association (BCCA), Alberta Community & Co-operative Association (ACCA), Rural Development Network (RDN) and Women’s Economic Council (WEC). The project received funding for the initial two-year development phase (2022-2024) which will include:

  • Design, development, translation and publishing of co-operative educational and business development resources in an accessible online video format in multiple languages
  • In-person and online education and engagement sessions with interested cohorts of newcomer entrepreneurs
  • Engagement of mentors, business developers and business service/support organizations to serve as a support network for emerging newcomer co-operatives
  • Design and development of an online social networking, collaboration, information and service platform for emerging newcomer co-operatives
