Membership Dues Support Fund
A pilot project in collaboration between Nelson & District Credit Union (NDCU), the BC Co-operative Association (BCCA), and the Upper Columbia Co-op Council (UCCC).
Strengthening Co-ops in the Kootenays
The Membership Dues Support Fund is a new initiative designed to help emerging co-operatives and those experiencing a temporary financial challenge in the Kootenay region stay connected to the provincial and regional co-operative network. By covering one year of BCCA and UCCC membership dues, the Fund ensures co-ops can access the learning, advocacy, relationships, and support that strengthen resilience during critical stages of development or recovery.
Launched in celebration of Nelson & District Credit Union’s 75th anniversary, this pilot program reflects the co-operative sector’s commitment to supporting one another and building a more inclusive and sustainable economy across British Columbia.
Who Is Eligible?
The Fund is designed to support co-operatives that are growing, strengthening, or navigating periods of transition. Co-ops are invited to apply if they:
- Operate in the Nelson and District Credit Union service area (the Kootenay Region, including Rossland, Crawford Bay and Nelson); and
- Are either:
- Emerging co-ops in their first two years of incorporation, or
- Co-ops experiencing a temporary financial challenge and seeking to stay connected to the co-op network; and
- Have annual sales of $1M or less; and
- Have not yet accessed more than two years of support through the Fund.
What the Fund Covers
The Fund provides one year of covered BCCA and UCCC membership dues to help co-ops stay engaged with learning, advocacy, and peer connections.
Co-ops that are not already members of BCCA will be required to purchase a one-time $10 membership share to activate their membership. This cost is not covered by the Fund. No additional shares are required in future years.
How to Apply
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and all applicants will receive a response within 10 business days.
Why This Matters
Early-stage and other co-operatives are often at their most vulnerable just as they’re doing the most important work – building community-driven solutions, creating local jobs, and strengthening regional economies. Membership in BCCA and UCCC offers critical benefits including:
- Access to sector knowledge and learning opportunities
- Connection to regional networks and peer co-operatives
- Inclusion in provincial advocacy efforts
- Enhanced visibility and collaboration opportunities
By removing financial barriers to membership, the Fund keeps co-ops connected to the ecosystem that helps them succeed. Learn about all membership benefits.
