Help Shape BC’s Co-operative Movement

This year, BCCA is seeking candidates to fill four Board vacancies to serve two-year terms. To strengthen our Board’s leadership and expertise, we encourage nominations from individuals with experience in one or more of the following areas: 

  • Strategy Development
  • Finance and Accounting
  • Government Relations
  • Change Management
  • Legal Expertise 

To support potential candidates, BCCA will host an information session on Monday, April 14, at 6:30 PM. Interested candidates can register at bcca.coop/events.

Nominations must be received by noon on April 23, 2025. Late submissions will not be accepted.

Each nomination must include: 

  • A brief bio (maximum 100 words)
  • A candidate statement outlining your interest in joining the BCCA Board
  • A summary of the skills and experience you will contribute

The election will take place during BCCA’s Annual General Meeting on June 4, 2025. Successful candidates must be available to participate in a 90-minute orientation session on June 19, 2025, at 3:30 PM.

Requirements, Responsibilities & Information

Authority & Responsibility 

The Board of Directors is the legal authority for the British Columbia Co-operative Association. As members of the Board, Directors have a fiduciary responsibility to the organization and are accountable to its members. The Directors set strategic direction and are responsible for ensuring best governance practices and oversight for BCCA’s management and programs.

Term 

Directors are elected at the Annual General Meeting for a two-year term. Terms are staggered such that the  Board will always have some continuing Directors.

Tasks and Duties

Directors must agree to:

  • Attend virtual Board meetings (quarterly or bi-monthly). 
  • Serve on at least one BCCA Board Committee. 
  • Prepare for and actively participate in Board discussions. 
  • Attend the Annual General Meeting. 
  • Help set BCCA’s strategic goals and priorities.  
  • Regularly review BCCA’s programs and services for effectiveness. 
  • Conduct the Executive Director’s annual performance review. 
  • Promote BCCA’s services and programs through events and networking. 

Governance Principles 

Directors must agree to :

  • Govern BCCA according to policy and rules established by its members. 
  • Uphold BCCA’s Purpose, Vision & Mission. 
  • Disclose any conflicts of interest. 
  • Recommend policy and rule revisions as needed. 
  • Act honestly, in good faith, and in BCCA’s best interests. 
  • Maintain confidentiality on all BCCA-related matters.
  • Exercise due care, diligence, and sound judgment. 

Qualifications for Board of Directors Applicants

To be eligible to apply for our Board of Directors, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Reside in British Columbia.
  • Hold a current Class A membership in good standing.
  • Hold a current Class B membership in good standing.
