BC Institute for Co-operative Studies

The BC Institute for Co-operative Studies was founded in January 2000 under the directorship of Dr Ian MacPherson, and is based at the University of Victoria.

BCICS is a catalyst for research, learning, and teaching about co-operative thought and practice. BCICS collaborates locally, nationally, and internationally with other post-secondary institutions, the co-operative sector, governments, individuals, and communities interested in co-operative development. ~ read more

Burnaby Co-op

Burnaby Consumer Services Co-operative began in the fall of 1980 when a few members of the recently closed Community Consumers Co-op met to discuss ways they could continue to buy co-operatively.

Led by Helen Marsen, Stuart McBurnie, Lin Latham, Tom Frietas, and Bob Smith, they decided to form a co-operative buying club, wrote a set of by-laws, and after many meetings submitted it to the Registrar of Co-operatives The Co-op was incorporated on January 19th, 1981 and placed its first order in February. CCEC Credit Union

In 1974 a group of people active in daycare, consumer and housing co-operatives met to discuss the problems of raising capital for their organizations. The capital in the community was not accessible to them because their financial institutions were unwilling to provide the needed financial services. The group decided to pool their organizations' money and form a financial institution that was committed to community economic development. ~ read more

Central 1 Credit Union

Central 1 Credit Union is the central financial facility and trade association for the B.C. and Ontario credit union systems. It's an "umbrella organization," representing retail financial institutions that serve 2.8 million members and hold more than $60 billion in assets.

Owned and funded by our credit union stakeholders, we operate on multiple levels to advance their goals -- from functioning as the system's wholesale financial arm and technology supplier to providing the full range of trade association and development services. ~ read more

Co-operative Housing Federation of BC

The Co-operative Housing Federation of BC (CHF BC) is a co-operative association whose members are housing co-ops and related organizations in British Columbia.

Members provide direction through their delegates at Federation meetings, through the Board of Directors elected at the annual general meeting, and by serving on CHF BC committees. This member direction helps CHF BC focus on meeting the needs of housing co-ops. ~ read more

Coast Capital Savings

Coast Capital Savings is Canada’s second largest credit union with total assets under administration of $12.9 billion, 425,000 members and 50 branches in the Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley and Vancouver Island regions of British Columbia. ~ read more
