Three Days of Unmissable Meetings for Business Leaders

From October 11 to 13, 2016, cooperative and mutual managers and decision-makers from around the world can exchange and gear up in order to improve their cooperatives’ ability to ACT while working to reveal the firepower of this business model in relation to the key socioeconomic issues identified by the United Nations.

 

The theme of Cooperatives: The Power to Act will guide the third edition of the International Summit of Cooperatives, which will be held in Quebec City, Canada, where more than 150 speakers and 3,000 participants from 90 countries will converge.

 

Summit participants will have the opportunity to think about the new socioeconomic and geopolitical realities in the company of some of the world’s best in their fields. They will then get to review challenges faced by cooperatives and mutuals in a constantly changing economy, as well as the opportunities that arise. Finally, they will be able to take part in workshops, where they will identify concrete actions for resolving key issues around the world.

 

Day 1 – Understanding the world’s new financial and socioeconomic issues

Acknowledging global socioeconomic and geopolitical trends and challenges

World-renowned speakers will review the current social, economic and geopolitical situation in the world and provide a composite sketch of the major economic and financial trends, along with an outlook for the future.

 

During this first day, participants will focus on their power to act on the real economy and delve deeper in the key factors leading to success. Current topics will be explored, including:

  • Long-term capitalism
  • Shared value
  • The new economy
  • Sustainable growth
  • Women, leadership and the economic challenge
  • The success of cooperatives

Day 2 – Forums and tools designed to spark action

Increasing our capacity to act – adapting to the new business reality

The morning program will consist of plenary sessions and forums that will be of interest to all businesses, regardless of size or economic sector. This will be an opportunity for participants to discover efficient tools and effective strategies for ensuring their development.

 

A series of forums will address ways of mastering the engines of growth by tapping into new business realities, such as:

  • Developing a Culture Of Innovation – A Priority to Provide Capacity for Growth
  • Frugal Innovation: An Inclusive and Sustainable Growth Strategy
  • Work in the Digital Era – Are We Ready for the Future?
  • The Economic Reality of Coops in Start-Up or Expansion Phase
  • Committing to the Community
  • Gaining Access to Capital for Growth
  • In the Era of Big Data Use to Create Value

Expanding our economic power – sectoral challenges and business opportunities

In the afternoon, participants will be grouped into activity sectors and invited to share experiences, business opportunities and challenges specific to the following sectors:

  • Agriculture and Agri-Food Industries
  • Insurance
  • Banking and Financial Services
  • Health and Social Services
  • Wholesale and Retail Trade
  • Industry, Services and Energy
  • Forestry

 

Speakers and panelists will shed new light on ways to adapt to the new competition and the need for cooperatives and mutuals to be competitive. These forums will also encourage the sharing of strategies that could lead to business partnerships.

 

In the evening, all participants are invited to the Around the World Cocktail Party.

Day 3 – The voice of cooperators!

Cooperatives in action to address global issues

In 2016, the Summit introduces a new element: Thousands of participants will take part in workshops with a view to consolidating their power to act by sharing their ideas, passions and points of view in order to provide concrete solutions to the key issues identified by the UN.

 

Experts will take part in a round table to present their points of view, and participants will gather in workshops to propose ways of addressing specific challenges, such as:

  • Food Security
  • Employment Crisis
  • Access to Health Care and Social Services
  • Poverty and Financial Inclusion
  • Climate Change and Sustainable Development

 

At the end of the workshops, the participants will designate a spokesperson from a cooperative or a mutual to represent them during the round table that will follow. This wrap-up plenary session will provide an opportunity to learn about the sustainable development strategies that were identified during the different workshops, and to discover numerous business opportunities that can contribute to the well-being of communities.

Scientific activities

A scientific symposium will bring together researchers, practicians, players and stakeholders from different backgrounds to discuss the power to act and the impact of cooperatives and mutuals. Scientific activity projects can be submitted until March 31, 2016 by anyone who wishes to take part in these scientific and professional sessions. Tomorrow’s leaders at the core of the Summit

Young people involved in cooperatives around the world, between the ages of 20 and 35, are invited to meet current cooperative leaders and representatives of major international organizations, such as the UN and WHO, for an introduction to best practices in cooperatives and mutuals. This is also an exceptional opportunity for them to network with their peers.

 

The next generation will be central to the program. Young leaders will be invited to participate in several forums as panelists.

 

Numerous events to add to your agenda

In collaboration with its partners, the Summit will offer several workshops, forums and breakfast meetings. These Rendez-vous will provide a unique opportunity to talk about a wide range of topics pertaining to different cooperative sectors.
